Common materials for electric kettles

Aug 19, 2025

The material of the electric kettle directly affects its safety, durability and experience. The material selection of different parts (such as inner pot, outer body, lid, base, etc.) is unique.

1. Stainless steel material (the most mainstream)

Stainless steel is the most commonly used material for electric kettle inner body. It can be divided into the following categories according to model.

• 201 Stainless Steel, affordable and durable.

• 304 Stainless Steel, food grade and not easy to rust.

• 316L Stainless steel, High-end health models, Corrosion resistance and high temperature resistance have been significantly improved. But the cost is higher.

2. Glass material

Most of them are high-borosilicate glass, high-temperature resistant glass that can withstand temperature differences of-30 ℃ to 150℃. You can visually see the boiling state when boiling water. Good chemical stability, no reaction with water or drinks, no odor, easy to clean.

3. Ceramic material

Most of them are high-temperature resistant ceramics (such as bone china, stoneware), and some will be coated with food grade glaze on the inner wall. It has good thermal insulation, can maintain the temperature for a period of time after boiling water, and the inner wall is smooth and is not easy to scale.

4. Plastic material

Food-grade PP (polypropylene) or food-grade silicone (high temperature resistant, odor-free, compliant with FDA or SGS certification).

Except for the kettle body, most other parts are made of PP or ABS.
